Safety Letterbox Company ‘ticks all the boxes’

Stylish mailboxes for two major student housing projects in London have been manufactured and installed by The Safety Letterbox Company (SLBC), the UK’s leading manufacturer of secure mailing systems.

Working closely with its clients, main contractor Mansell Construction Services Ltd and Unite Group, the UK’s largest manager of student accommodation, SLBC developed first-class bespoke solutions to suit the specific site requirements at both locations.

For two multi-storey blocks at Great Suffolk Street, 180 H1 Lateral free-standing mailboxes were specified for their robustness, aesthetics and ease-of-use. Finished in red, they make an eye-catching and colourful ground-floor statement.

The £18 million scheme has transformed the former pottery site for student housing with one six-storey block containing 102 apartment units and office space, while the 13-storey tower behind comprises 128 studios and one-bedroom flats.

SLBC’s fitting team delivered a completely bespoke, quality and low-maintenance mail system to suit residents’ requirements. The installation was completed on budget and on time, ready for opening in autumn 2010.

John Horgan, Mansell’s Senior Project Manager, comments: “The Safety Letterbox Company’s service combines expertise and high standards in mailbox installation. Their team operates professionally on site and I would be happy to recommend the company to others and use them on future sites.”

At Bloomsbury’s Woburn Place in the heart of London’s literary district, SLBC again delivered the mail solution for Unite’s luxury student accommodation. Dating back to 1939, the former offices were converted by Mansell into 458 modern apartments.

Safe and secure receipt of letters is assured with the 350 H1 table-supported steel mailboxes finished in white and accepting a minimum of A4-sized items. All are located in the ground-floor post room of the historic building, part of which falls within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area.

SLBC’s fitting team overcame challenges presented by the building’s design and construction to create a stylish, space-saving and user-friendly mail facility for convenient face entry and face retrieval.

Both projects are examples of how The Safety Letterbox Company can meet architects’ specifications with its extensive manufacturing expertise and realise the client’s vision with visually appealing products to suit any site profile, location and budget. It offers more than 120 models of mailboxes, from robust fire-rated products to design-led bespoke installations, to clients in the public and private sectors.
