STYROFOAM-A insulation from Dow Building Solutions is gearing up for a winning performance at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A series of major building contractors working on the London 2012 Olympic Park are installing the distinctive blue insulation material on structures which will be seen by billions of people around the globe.
ROOFMATE SL-A and FLOORMATE 500-A boards have already been installed on a major shopping centre and car park located next to the Olympic Park in East London. The shopping centre is due to be the biggest in Europe - 60% of the space has already been let to some of the biggest names in retail as businesses plan for an influx of visitors in 2012.
ROOFMATE SL-A is also being added to several blocks in the Athletes’ Village, with work now well underway on providing accommodation for thousands of athletes and officials.
“With bids for blocks in the Village completed, roofing projects are full steam ahead,” said Jayne Law, UK and Ireland sales manager for Dow Building Solutions. “The Athletes’ Village will be transformed into a residential community following the Games, ensuring a lasting legacy for STYROFOAM that will benefit people beyond the Games.”
The London 2012 Main Press Centre is set to feature more ROOFMATE SL-A, and the product will even form part of the star of the show – the Main Arena.
STYROFOAM-A is proving popular with building designers looking for materials that help support energy efficiency targets. The A-foam range, only made by Dow in the UK, is manufactured using technology that takes CO2 from industry and uses it as a blowing agent. The resulting extruded polystyrene foam has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than five, meaning it helps support the Games’ sustainability commitments.
All STYROFOAM products offer lightweight yet robust performance, high strength and excellent moisture resistance, making them ideal for below-ground and exposed roof-top insulation demands, or for areas where structural support is also required. It’s hoped the role of the material will grow further as building work continues.
“Discussions are already underway for STYROFOAM products to be used on yet more projects on the 2012 complex as construction continues,” continued Jayne. “We’re confident in the ability of our products to put in just as strong as performance as the athletes when it comes to 2012 and beyond!”
