American Bob Diamond, who is one of the world's highest paid bankers, is to become chief executive of Barclays bank.
Diamond, who is currently head of the Barclays' investment wing Barclays Capital, has already made about £100m for the bank.
He will replace current chief executive, John Varley, who has been widely credited as being responsible for driving the bank through the financial crisis, when he leaves next year.
BBC business editor, Robert Peston, has said that the appointment of Bob Diamond has reinforced the view that Barclays sees its future as a global investment bank. |
