Meadowstone report demand increase for Cast Stone

Cast Stone manufacturer MDL Meadowstone, based in Derbyshire, are reporting a significant increase in the purchase of items from their standard and bespoke ranges from a wide variety of property and commercial developers across the UK.  Standard items from MDL Meadowstone are most commonly Cills, Bay Cills, Decorative Heads, String Courses, Pier Caps and Copings – all of which are generally manufactured as dry cast products.

The  increase in demand is not only a clear indication that construction work is getting back on track but also that cost control is uppermost in everyone’s mind.  Products produced using the dry cast process are extremely cost effective to manufacture and supply.

Commenting on the increased demand for all cast stone products MDL Meadowstone Director Simon Tibble says: “It is really encouraging to see movement in the construction market and a true sign that developers have the confidence to move forward with projects again.  We can gauge from the recent increase in demand of al our products that cost is still a sensitive issue that developers are addressing without wanting to compromise on any elements of quality or aesthetic appeal of the finished product.”

MDL Meadowstone continues to supply some of the most prestigious building projects in the UK supplying standard items manufactured using wet and dry cast methods but also a wide range of highly specialised pieces for one-off bespoke projects.

One of its latest projects has been former Coutts Bank Off-Shore Headquarters in the Isle of Man into 16 lavish apartments is now nearing completion.  The project to convert the former banking headquarters has culminated in a unique and exclusive example of modern apartment living.   Coutts House incorporates a 12-metre swimming pool, sauna, spa and gym as well as a Concierge service and meeting room, all designed with luxury in mind.

An important part of the scheme has been the design and build of a new annexe to the existing building.  MDL Meadowstone, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of Cast Stone, has supplied a variety of bespoke stonework pieces to the project, which most notably included: Balustrading, two new Porticos, window surrounds, plinths, band course, quoins, copings and pier caps for the main building and the external works.

The significance of the work commissioned was vital to the overall finished look, feel and appeal of the project with the historical match, not only of the items against the original Coutts building, but also an exact colour match of the stone from the original building being of key importance.

Jan Tinsley, Director of Escape Properties Ltd comments on the project: “The integration of the extension to this well known building was crucial to our overall build and we needed to work with a company who were experienced in this type of challenge , and could offer a sympathetic approach to our requirements.  MDL Meadowstone were not only able to supply us with manufacturing know- how but were a valuable asset when it came to sourcing on-site installation.”

The specification for the work carried out on Coutts House was all undertaken using a  Dry Cast Stone material which is designed to exceed even the most stringent performance criteria.  MDL Meadowstone’s skill lies in the production of these items to the highest quality and required colour formations time after time.

Coutts House is just minutes from the Isle of Man’s bustling capital, Douglas.
