China-UK Ideal Town and Garden City Summit
Summit: 26 April, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm
Exhibition: 21 - 30 April
Building Centre, 26 Store Street, London WC1E 7BT
An exhibition showcasing exemplar case studies of new Chinese towns and UK towns will be held at the China Design Centre Gallery from 21st April to the 30th April.
China’s national policies now promote the development of small towns in response to huge issues of congestion, pollution and lack of facilities in large Chinese cities. China Design Centre is bringing 33 Chinese representatives to The China-UK Ideal Town and Garden City Summit to exchange ideas with UK urban specialists about sustainable, livable and thriving towns. The event is focussed around debates and will appeal to UK architects, masterplanners, urbanists, environmentalists and engineers who want to discuss ideas with the visiting delegates from a top Chinese developer on the ingredients of an ideal town and who are interested to find out more about the issue in China.
The Summit will debate new Garden City ideas and will look at best practice for eco towns, market towns, community engagement, creative quarter and elderly living in the town as well as town centre design and management. It will show how UK’s experience and lessons can be beneficial to current thinking on town making in China. The summit will also introduce examples of new Chinese towns and compare them to similar projects in Europe and the UK.
UK contributors include Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, URBED, John Thompson & Partners, ADAM Architecture, Farrells, Hawkins\Brown, Studio REAL, and Penoyre & Prasad.
The event is supported by Shanghai City of Design Promotion Centre London Base, The Academy of Urbanism, The Building Centre and China Greentown Group.
Ticket price is £50 +VAT for the whole conference and £25+VAT for the half day sessions. An early bird discount of 10% is available until 6th April.
North England Build
27 - 28 April
The construction industry across the North of England is set to boom. As the UK makes a strong recovery from the financial crisis the private sector has been increasing investment across the region and construction approvals have been up year-on-year. Meanwhile the UK government is set to invest heavily in multiple schemes across the North of England aimed at establishing a “Northern Powerhouse” that competes strongly in the world economy.
A world class transport system is to be developed that links up the individual cities and towns in the North allowing them to function as a single economy. Alongside infrastructure investment, substantial investment is to be made in the regeneration of city centres. Continued economic recovery in the private sector and a number of development projects in the public sector are expected to drive a substantial surge in construction projects across the North.
From infrastructure projects to urban regeneration, from transport investment to office development, the number of new construction projects in the North of England is vast. North England Build 2016 is the only event of its kind to cover construction opportunities and projects across all of the North.
Taking place at Manchester Central, the leading exhibition centre in the region, North England Build 2016 is the ideal opportunity for companies to get involved in North England’s booming construction sector.
