Holder Mathias appoints new associate

Holder Mathias has promoted Julian Morgan as associate to aid its commitment to delivering sustainable architecture across a varied client portfolio.

Mr Morgan originally trained at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff University and has occupied the role of senior architect at Holder Mathias since 2005.

He has more than 18 years experience in architectural practice having previously spent 10 years in London, initially with Levitt Bernstein Associates and later with Sheppard Robson, where he was responsible for delivering a number of high-profile projects. These include acting as project architect and associate responsible for both the RIBA-award winning Pfizer Ltd UK headquarters development at Walton Oaks, Surrey and the relocation of Whitelands College, Roehampton University, as well as the Grade 1 listed refurbished and extended Parkstead House in Wandsworth, London.

Mr Morgan will now be responsible for managing the delivery of projects across a number of different sectors, including eco-housing and mixed-use urban regeneration schemes in Swansea for Coastal Housing Group.

He says: “When I first joined Holder Mathias, I was attracted to the mixture of clients and project types that it boasted and the variety of experience this offered. It is this breadth of knowledge which I will look to bring to my new role in helping deliver projects across a varied client base.”

Mr Morgan played a key role in helping the practice gain accreditation under the internationally-recognised ISO 14001:2004 standard for the second year running for its excellence in environmental standards. The standard is awarded to organisations that demonstrate they can identify and control the environmental impact of their activities, continually improve their environmental performance, and take a systematic approach to setting and achieving environmental objectives.

He continues: “Sustainability is no longer merely an added bonus, it is a competitive advantage and it is becoming evermore important to consider the environmental impact of projects. Environmental standards are being raised all the time so it is not only vital that we keep up with the technologies that help us achieve and exceed these standards, but also that we champion the sustainable design agenda as a profession.”

Peter Gamble, managing director of Holder Mathias, says: “Julian’s role in helping us secure ISO 14001:2004 accreditation and his experience in delivering high-profile projects across a variety of sectors will stand us in good stead as we continue to be at the forefront of sustainable design.”
