Hawkins\Brown puts its staff centre stage
Hawkins\Brown puts its staff centre stage

After almost 25 years acting as a Limited Company in the sole ownership of Roger Hawkins and Russell Brown, the award winning practice Hawkins\Brown has evolved into a Limited Liability Partnership - Hawkins\Brown Architects LLP.

"It's an exciting time for the continued growth of our studio" says Roger Hawkins. "The new structure allows a transition into a co-operatively owned business".

Whilst it is relatively common for unregistered partnerships to become LLPs, it is more challenging for a Limited Company to change its status in this way; a shadow LLP has been operating for 3 years to allow the transition to be completed smoothly.

Hawkins says "This is a sustainable modern business model giving a wider group a stake in the future of the practice, which we believe will create a sense of ownership and responsibility that will allow us to innovate more and become more profitable".

At the same time Hawkins\Brown is launching a new website - hawkinsbrown.com - designed by The Neighbourhood, which reflects the dynamic and collaborative culture at the heart of the practice.

Ben Davies, Director The Neighbourhood said: “When we got to know Hawkins\Brown, we discovered a very open and progressive studio, and an atmosphere which was very different to many other architects offices we have visited. A really vibrant collaborative culture exists across the studio, with an eclectic approach to projects, a passion for storytelling and craft, and an engaged and involved team.

We wanted to reflect this in an online presence, which would truly provide a 'slice' through the studio, and to move beyond the 'portfolio' site often associated with architects’ websites. We wanted to give the stories behind the projects an opportunity to be told, to reveal and celebrate the collaborative culture of the studio, and give the whole team the opportunity to share their influences and insights.”

From 01 April 2012 the LLP membership at Hawkins\Brown will include David Bickle, Harbinder Birdi, Louisa Bowles, Russell Brown, Heidi Corbet, Katie Finnie, Roger Hawkins, Euan Macdonald, Mathew Mallon, Jason Martin, Oliver Milton, Morag Morrison, Greg Moss, Nicola Rutt, Seth Rutt, Emma Smart, Hazel York and Nicole Woodman.

Hawkins\Brown has recently been successful in winning a number of new projects including projects at The University of Oxford, London Southbank University; further phases at Park Hill and large-scale urban regeneration projects at Woodberry Down, Clapham Estate and Deptford Wharves, in London.
