David Cameron has arrived in India with a large convoy of cabinet ministers, business leaders and sports personalities, to call for a new era of cooperation between Britain and its former colony.

Cameron also announced that Britain would share nuclear expertise with the sub-continent for the first time. Cameron said: "I want to take the relationship between India and Britain to the next level. I want to make it stronger, wider and deeper."

Cameron admitted he was on a 'jobs mission', hoping to create thousands of jobs in the UK. The Prime Minister said that 90,000 people are employed in the UK by Indian firms and "many more" because of the activities of British firms in India.

He stated: "An enhanced relationship and a shared determination to take on the challenges that confront us - these are not borne from sentiment. I'm a practical politician. I believe when problems are serious, we should tackle them. When the answer is obvious, we should do it."
